Phentermine is a very potent drug given under certain clinical conditions. It is seen that people who have not been able to reduce weight with the other traditional methods of weight loss, benefit a lot from it. But is it related to fertility in any ways?
What is Phentermine?
When we talk about the prescription drug phentermine, we are actually referring to phentermine Hydrochloride. It is a colourless odourless powder that is hygroscopic and soluble in water and weaker alcohols. It is often given to patients who are trying hard to reduce their weight along with exercise. People with abnormal BMI need to restrict their diet also and for them the Phentermine pills act as appetite suppressants. It is said to increase the metabolic rate of the body and so a person burns more calories from the same workout regime. But it may cause dirty side effects and so it must be taken after consulting a doctor. The doctor can prescribe the lowest amount of Phentermine entering your body that can make a difference. Some of the side effects are as follows-
- Allergic Urticarial
- Dryness of the mouth, diarrhoea, constipation, or other disturbances in the gastro intestinal system.
- Palpitation, elevated BP, ischemic heart, or other cardiovascular diseases.
- Restlessness, insomnia, tremor, headache, overstimulation, dizziness and I surely affect the CNS.
Somebody who is under the medication of Phentermine must not engage in hazardous work that needs full concentration. The nature of the drug is such that it can loosen the coordination of the muscles and the person is at risk if he is doing hazardous tasks. The medicine is to be used only for a sort span of time and avoided as soon as possible.
Does Phentermine Affect Fertility?
You must be wonders whether it affects the reproductive organs and fertility! Well to this I would like to say is that it does decrease the libido and fertility. One who is using it will lose the gusto for sexual intercourse. Very long use can even make one impotent. So but there are people who have conceived while on phentermine for weight loss. Actually the BMI must be 22 to 24 while you are planning for a baby and so people go on Phentermine dose of about not more than forty milligrams per day. But while some experience an effect in the endocrine glands and a lack of libido, there are some who in fact conceive while taking Phentermine. As soon as one is pregnant she must stop this medication immediately. Phentermine causes hypertension in many and increases the blood pressure. This is surely harmful for the mother as well as the foetus. Even lactating mothers must avoid taking Phentermine, because even if there is not proven results as to the transferring of the drug to the child with the milk, yet it is better to avoid. Prolonged use of phentermine may cause erectile dysfunction in men and irregular periods in women.
So from here it may be well inferred that phentermine does cause some problems related to fertility in some. It is best advised that once you plan to get pregnant stop with the dosage and keep trying.[divider scroll_text=”Back to Top”]
